Josh Peng

My political beliefs are left and libertarian, meaning that I believe the government's main duty is to help every citizen with their basic necessities and that government should stay out of citizens' personal affairs. I believe valuing rehabilitation over punishment, the enfranchisement of every citizen, and the right to a quality (secular) education are primary issues that must be addressed in the current political atmosphere. I believe that the wealthy should sacrifice some wealth to bring up those less fortunate. The wealth disparity in the United States is startling and frightening and it's even more so when one realizes that much of the wealth that is accumulated in the hands of few is determined by morally arbitrary factors such as race, gender, birth, etc. I believe that this sacrifice should be compulsory because of the wealth of research that indicates that nobody is predisposed, and in fact the wealthy are much less inclined, to be generous even in the face of reason and a stronger economic future for the US.

  1. I completely agree with you, but I'm curious to why you believe in valuing rehabilitation.
