Jonah Charlton - Political Beliefs

Jonah Charlton

Political beliefs compass results

My political beliefs lie considerably left on economic issues and considerably libertarian on social issues. I think overall the quiz is very accurate to what I believe about myself and the ideals I hold regarding economic and social issues.

In my opinion, citizens who have more wealth should want to help the less fortunate or less well off by paying higher taxes and the government should require it. The government is set up in a way in which it's easy for the rich to stay rich and the poor to stay poor through systems of oppression that have been in place for hundreds of years. Thus, those who are fortunate enough to have been born away from those systems or simply have more wealth at their disposal should morally want to help those who have less. The government should require this through taxes because, in all honestly, the majority of rich Americans will not try to help others out of the lower class.

The three values I think every American should have the automatic and undeniable right to (in addition to many others not listed) are the right to vote, the right to marry legally and the right to speak freely without fear of repercussions. The right to vote must be a given for every American because the power to choose those who represent you in the government is crucial to one of the actually decent ideals this country was founded upon. Marriage is a key form of expression and one that all Americans, regardless of any factors, should be provided under the law. Freedom to speak freely is incredibly important as well. The right to stand up for what one believes and not live in fear that you will be in some way persecuted for your views is a essential.
